   Second only to the apple, the banana is the most consumed fruit in the world. It is found on all five continents and is the most convenient and safe fruit to eat as it comes wrapped in its own “packaging.” It is also one of the most nutritional foods available as it contains vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin A, C and E and iron and calcium. Here are just a few of the health benefits of a simple banana:

  • Bananas are good for those who suffer from coronary disease. They contain a high amount of potassium which helps to prevent high blood pressure, arrhythmia, strokes and even some cancer. The B vitamins found in bananas also help to strengthen and energize the heart muscle.

  • Those who are on a low-sodium diet should be eating lots of bananas as well since they provide calories, vitamins and minerals and are very low in sodium.

  • Bananas are a great food for the diabetic as well. The sugar found in bananas is absorbed more slowly than refined (white) sugars and therefore does not produce a spike in blood glucose level.

  • They are rich in fiber and help restore normal bowel function and improve digestive health.

  • Bananas are a natural antacid as they neutralize stomach acid and relieve heartburn.

  • Bananas increase your hemoglobin count in the blood, so they help with anemia.

  • If you are feeling lethargic, grab a banana because they are packed with energy!
